Bang Rak Koh Samui
Located on the north coast is Bang Rak Koh Samui. Bophut to the west and Plai Laem to the east. Situated on the 4170 a prominent loop road joining the 4169 ring Road at Bophut traffic lights. Conveniently close to Koh Samui Airport. Due to close proximity to Big Buddha, the beach is known as Big Buddha Beach. The huge statue is visible from the beach. Public transport is frequent on the main road. Motorbike taxis and Songthaews cruise beeping horns for custom. A quieter vibe awaits the tourist in Bang Rak.
Bang Rak Beach
The beach has areas suitable for swimming. Between the Petcharta and Big Buddha Piers, a hotel has jet skis and watersports so not so good for swimming. Tour and charter boats are also moored at the piers. The piers take passengers to the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan by ferry or private charters. Watersports and private tours are very popular from this bay. Beach vendors are few on this beach.
Local Area Bang Rak
Perfectly situated for visiting popular tour attractions such as Big Buddha Temple. Vehicle rental is in abundance in Bang Rak. Sports bars show the latest sporting events advertised on boards outside the bars. Compared to busier Chaweng the nightlife here is calm and a relaxed vibe. Some hotels in Bang Rak close at 10 pm to respect families with small children. Thai and international food are readily available from the restaurants and bars in the area. Live music can be found at a few bars, there are no lady bars so suitable for families.
Perfectly placed for stunning sunsets Bang Rak Koh Samui is one of the best places on the island for sunsets. A causeway leading to Big Buddha Temple has rocks and boulders to sit and watch the spectacular transformation of nature. Bring a drink and your camera for some of the most breathtaking views over the island. The beaches offer photographers the chance to capture some amazing pictures. Several luxury vessels as well as local fishing boats moor in the bay making for an interesting view best of all it is free.
Koh Samui Airport Noise
On Bang Rak main road visitors may be caught off-guard as low flying planes pass above. The airport runway is located behind Bang Rak. Air traffic noise can be a problem in this area but the noise level is not too bad and is a tourist attraction. The first planes leave Koh Samui Airport at 06:00hrs and the last at 22:00hrs. Looking for peace with no noise pollution whatsoever you may prefer the nearby areas of Plai Laem or Choeng Mon.
