Nathon Koh Samui
The islands administrative and business centre is in Nathon Koh Samui. Located north-west of Samui Nathon is the capital town of Koh Samui. The area is not a lively tourist area like the busier Lamai or Chaweng. However, Nathon is still a great place to visit for the day. Stroll along the harbour browsing shops offering goods cheaper than the tourist towns of Chaweng and Lamai. Traditional wooden Chinese houses line the streets. Converted to shops selling clothing, crafts and everything else.
The main ferry dock is located in Nathon Koh Samui. Transporting passengers to Surat Thani Donsak and the surrounding islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Due to the location of the ferry port backpackers flock here for onward journeys. Seatran ferries run a regular service from Nathon Pier. Public transport taxis and motorbike taxis wait outside the port of Nathon Pier. Book buses at the pier terminal.
A shallow beach with soft white sand in some areas. Water sports are readily available along the shore. Vendors walk the beaches selling their wares and tares. Sunsets from this side of the island are stunning. Photographers have opportunities to capture an interesting area in Koh Samui.
Local Area Nathon Koh samui
Every Saturday Nathon Koh Samui holds a street market at the main Ferry Pier. Frequented by the locals offering cheap street food. Vendors sell local crafts and souvenirs. Samples of local delicacies are offered to tempt you to buy. Fruit vegetables and meats adorn stalls and carts. Clothes are cheap but do not be fooled they are originals. They are however good copies. DVDs are copies of the latest films. Do not be surprised if they don’t work properly they are copies.
Dine in restaurants overlooking the harbour watching boats and ferries come and go. Seafood is popular at the waterfront restaurants. Shops and internet cafes line the streets . Conveniently located to the port are the smaller hotels and guest houses for the early morning crossings. Make sure you visit the Chinese temple.
Immigration Office (New Location)
The Immigration Offices have now moved to Mae Nam. The move took place September 2016. The immigration office was a reason for people to visit Nathon and spend the day exploring.
